The Products I Use & Their Ingredients
My go to products to control mosquitoes and ticks are EcoVia MT & Essentria EC. Both contain botanical oils like soybean oil, clove oil, citronella oil, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil and more.
These products are FIFRA 25 (b) exempt with no restrictions on applications near bodies of water. They are designed to be safe for your family & pets, amphibians and are bee friendly. To top it all off, they have an incredibly pleasant smell.
Unlike the synthetic options that last much longer, these products last up to 21 to 30 days in ideal weather conditions. The draw back to using safer products is, of course, that more service visits are needed in order to keep your yard bite free. Treatment pricing starts at $105 a month from April to October.

Recommendations for Lasting Results
After an intial inspection, I'll quickly knock down the mosquito population using a gas-powered backpack mister. I'll apply an even application to the underside of leaves, shrubs, trees, and other shaded areas like under patio overhangs and low decks where mosquitoes hide. This creates a fast-drying residual barrier that kills adult mosquitoes on contact and significantly reduces activity.
Mosquitoes only need a bottle cap full amount of water to hatch larva. I'll go after standing water, applying an effective larvicide like Altosid Pro-G IGR to stop mosquitoes at the source for 30 days by eliminating them in the larval stage. This step is included with each service visit to keep populations down throughout the season.
Although I can treat standing water, it’s important to eliminate the conditions that allow mosquitoes to thrive. That means dumping or draining standing water in buckets, planting pots, old tires, making sure gutters are cleaned regularly and checking that they have proper drainage, all while keeping vegetation trimmed and the grass cut low to reduce harborage. Without addressing these issues, mosquitoes will continue to breed and return between treatments.

I've Been Taking Care of Richmond VA's Pest Control Problems for 14 Years
My name is Marcus and Im the owner of Optimal Termite & Pest Control. We are a local, family owned pest control company in Richmond VA, not a corporate giant. I give honest answers, fair pricing and safe treatments that actually solve the issue. Even though I’m in this industry, I strictly follow product labels because the label is the law. I understand people in Richmond VA don’t want to be exposed to hazardous insecticides, and neither do I. I focus on using the lowest-impact, eco-friendly products whenever possible to reduce risk to your family, my family, and the Richmond James River enviroment. I take every opportunity to implement an IPM (Integrated Pest Management) approach, focusing on inspections, exclusion, and surgical treatments to significantly cut down on product usage. Professional pest control isn’t about how much product is applied, it’s about using it them right way. If I can solve a problem with less product or no product at all, that’s a win for everyone. If you’re looking for a pest company that takes all of this seriously, then look no further than Optimal Termite & Pest Control. From long term termite protection & WDI reports to general pest control and seasonal mosquito control, we handle it all.
A: Yes. We offer one-time mosquito treatments to quickly reduce activity so you can enjoy your event—just give us a reasonable heads up so we can get you scheduled in time.
Q: I'm hosting an outdoor event. Do you offer one time services for mosquitoes?
A: Yes. The products used are pollinator-friendly, but we still take extra care to avoid treating flowering plants, fruit gardens, and vegetables so we don’t interfere with pollination activity.
A: Yes—when the conditions are right, they work very well. I target the entire mosquito life cycle and focus on where they actually live, treating the underside of leaves and dense vegetation where they rest. The botanical treatment kills on contact and leaves a protective barrier. That said, I’m honest, some properties don’t have enough shaded foliage for a spray to be effective, which is why I may recommend an inspection first to check for standing water and other conducive conditions and give you a straight answer on whether treatment will get you the results you want.
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Mosquito Treatments
Q: What if rain washes away the treatment? Do you charge to re treat?
Q: Do your mosquito & tick treatments really work?
Q: Can I water or cut my grass after treatment?
Q: Why are the mosquitoes so bad in my yard?
Q: Is your mosquito spraying service pollinator friendly?
A: Youre able to enjoy the yard again immediately after treatment. The products used are safe for your family and pets and have a very fast dry time during the spring and summer months.
A: It usually comes down to the environment. Dense vegetation like English ivy, shrubs, and overgrown areas create cool, shaded spots where mosquitoes rest during the day. On top of that, any standing water—poor drainage, clogged gutters, containers, tarps, or low spots in the yard—becomes a breeding ground where they can multiply fast. Warm, humid conditions make it even worse, allowing mosquitoes to go from egg to biting adult in as little as a week, so without addressing those conditions, populations can get out of control quickly.
A: No, I do not charge for re treatment visits in between scheduled service days.
Q: How soon can my family go outside after treatment?
A: We don’t recommend it right after treatment. Please mow or water your lawn a couple days before your scheduled service so the application can stay in place and work effectively.
Q: Do I need to prepare for a mosquito treatment?
A: Yes. Please remove pet bowls and kids’ toys from the yard before service. Even though the products are all-natural, the treatment is applied to vegetation, not items around your yard.
